We restore, ride and sell vintage motorcycles. We also sell parts as they become available and provide services that we ourselves need and use for restorations. These services include cylinder boring/honing, valve jobs/headwork, carburetor cleaning/tuning and turbos/superchargers. I powder coat small parts and apply oven cured performance coatings to engine parts. I also provide motorcycle transportation at $1 a mile within 500 miles of Sterling, VA. Services: (all quotes are for labor only) Outside the quotes below, labor is $50 an hour.
I am factory trained and provide a variety of engine services for ALL motorcycle brands.
I rebuild 4 cylinder heads for $200, twins for $150 and singles for $100 (2 or 4 valve).
For a head rebuild, I do the following:
DISASSEMBLE AND INSPECT HEAD
INSPECT VALVE GUIDES AND SPRINGS
VAPOR or GLASS BEAD BLAST - COOLING FINS
VAPOR or GLASS BEAD BLAST - PORTS (will do mild port cleanup for $20 a port)
SURFACE HEAD (clean gasket surface, check for warpage)
MULTI ANGLE VALVE JOB (or clean and re-lap original valves)
REASSEMBLE HEADPERFORM LEAK TEST
I suggest new valves, seals and keepers and will replace the old parts with any new parts purchased for the head. If used in the rebuild, original parts are cleaned, inspected and lubed before reassembly. Original parts can also be refurbished with a DFL coating to extend their useful life and to provide extra lubrication protection. Extra head services included below (parts extra):
REMOVE PAINT, COSMETIC CLEANING ($50)
INSTALL NEW GUIDES ($15 per guide)
FIN REPAIR (approx. $50 per repair)
SPARK PLUG HELICOIL ($50 per hole)
REPAIR CRACKED/DAMAGED HEADS ($100+)
INSTALL OVERSIZE VALVES ($20 per valve)
(Note: if new valve seats are required, work is outsourced)

BORE AND HONE CYLINDERS ($45 a hole - 4 cyl. $140) - typical overbore (up to .5mm | .020")
BIG BORE BORING/HONING ($65 a hole - 4 cyl. $200) - takes multiple passes (time consuming!)
INSTALL LARGER CYLINDER SLEEVES ($60 per sleeve) - if no bore required, $20 per sleeve.ULTRASONIC w/HEAT CLEAN CARBURETORS ($40 per carb) - includes disassembly
REBUILD TRANSMISSION ($200) - any case or bearing repairs are extra.
I will inspect and evaluate engine parts for free, although you are responsible for shipping costs. I can make some assessments based on images and measurements sent to me, but am limited in what I can do with just photos.
Shipping: Unless the item is heavier than a typical motorcycle head or cylinder, I charge $20 shipping/handling.
APPLICATION OF PERFORMANCE COATINGS ($10 per product, per part - 4th cylinder free)
Special: 4 pistons with BOTH Dry Film Lubricant on skirts and Ceramic Thermal Barrier on crowns - $50!
I find many original parts can be reused safely in an rebuilt engine with the use of performance coatings. As long as they are not physically damaged, pistons/pins, valves/guides, plain bearings and gears can be coated with an oven cured Dry Film Lubricant which provides superior friction reduction and significanly extends the life of the parts. The use of a ceramic based Thermal Barrier on piston crowns and valve faces will improve combustion chamber efficiency and keep the heat where it belongs. A Thermal Dispersant under pistons will shed excess hot oil which improves heat dissipation.
